Swimming

Swimming lessons at Brookside take place for all pupils in Key Stage Two (Years 3- 6).  Children in Year 3 - Year 5 swim for a term each and Year 6 benefit from 'top-up' lessons in the Summer Term.   The lessons are taught by a team of instructors at Ellesmere Sport Sport Village and trained teachers from school.     

For swimming lessons, children will need: a towel, swimming trucks or a one-piece swimming costume, a waterproof bag to put their clothes in while they swim.  Children with long hair will be required to wear a swimming hat.  All jewellery must be removed, including stud earrings.  

Preparing your child for swimming lessons

We believe regular practice of swimming is very important therefore we are always grateful if parents and carers are able to take children swimming after school or at weekends. 

Please get in touch with the Ellesmere Port Sports Village (0151-659-1010) to get your child on their Learn 2 Swim programme.  Once signed up your child will receive a FREE SWIMMING CARD. This gives children the opportunity to swim for free outside of lesson time to encourage plenty of extra practice. The card will be valid as long as the child is enrolled in the Learn 2 Swim programme. This card is entitles the child to free entry to any Casual Swim session.

From 2017-2018 academic year, there is a new condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils within their Year 6 cohort are meeting the National Curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
