This week in science, Year 5 explored the Solar System in two really exciting ways. First, the children created pocket solar systems, using maths to calculate and measure the scaled distances between the planets — and were amazed by just how far apart they really are!

We then used those same maths skills to work out the relative sizes of each planet before getting hands-on with Play-Doh to create our own scale models. Seeing tiny Mercury sitting next to a whopping Jupiter really brought it all to life. Well done, Year 5 — you were absolutely stellar!
