Homework

Spellings will be given out on Friday ready for a spelling test on the following Thursday. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings over the week.

Learning log homework will be given out on Fridays and the content will vary week to week depending on what we are learning in school that term.

Home readers will be given out on a Monday to be returned on a Friday. You can either log on to your ebooks which will correspond with the Read Write Inc book read in school or read your hand-held book. In addition to this is another reading book which is levelled to your child's needs plus a library book which is a picture book for you to read and enjoy with your child.

My Maths on-line tasks will be set weekly, please remember your log in details.  If you don't have access to IT then please request a paper activity.

Phonics in Year 1

We follow the scheme Read Write Inc to teach reading and phonics. Please take a look at this link which explains in more detail how we teach the letter sounds. There are some useful videos which you can use to support home learning.

Writing in Year 1

We are very keen to secure the correct formation of letters and numbers in year 1 and would appreciate any support from home in this area. A quick 5 minutes a day practising the correct formation, will have a huge impact.

Maths in Year 1

At the start of year 1 we like to secure our number recognition to 20 and begin to explore our numbers to 100. It is very important to be able to read, write and count up to 100 and beyond. We also begin solving simple addition and subtraction sums, multiplication and division, shape, space and measures, money, fractions and telling the time.

Here is a link to our scheme of work for Maths, here you can see what learning is taking place in school week by week.

General Reminders…

  • Please ensure you have named all items of clothing.

  • The children will be doing PE on Fridays. Please ensure your child wears their PE kit to school and that all items are clearly labelled with their names.

I hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 1 has to offer!
