What a fantastic couple of days we’ve had! Year 4 threw themselves into every moment of our residential trip to the Burwardsley Outdoor Centre, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.
From the start, the children showed great teamwork, curiosity and a real sense of adventure. Pond dipping was a particular highlight — the excitement when we found newts, dragonfly nymphs, tadpoles and water beetles was infectious! I think we may have a few future ecologists in the making.
The children also rose to the challenge of map reading and orienteering (with only the occasional wrong turn!), learning how to navigate the course with increasing confidence. Shelter building gave them the chance to problem-solve and work together, and there was plenty of creativity and laughter along the way.
One of the most memorable moments was seeing the awe on their faces as they used flint and steel to create a spark — real survival skills in action!
They returned tired but buzzing, having learned new skills, made new memories and grown in independence. Well done, Year 4 — what an adventure!
