Excitement reached fever pitch in Year 5 when the local fire service rolled onto the school grounds with a fully equipped fire engine! The children had a fantastic hands-on experience exploring the vehicle, getting a close-up look at the specialized tools, hoses, and cutting equipment used in real emergencies. A real highlight was learning all about the firefighters' protective clothing, discovering how the heavy, multi-layered tunic and trousers shield them from extreme heat and flames, while the heavy-duty boots and helmet offer vital protection. The class asked some incredibly thoughtful questions about fire safety and rescue operations, showing immense respect for our community heroes. A massive thank you to the crew for such an unforgettable, inspiring afternoon!
