On Tuesday, members of Year 5 and Year 6 headed off to Whitby for an action-packed STEM day focused on hands-on science, engineering, and global problem-solving.

Testing the Forces: Air Resistance

Our young scientists kicked off the day by diving straight into physics, investigating the invisible forces around us. The children explored how air resistance impacts movement and surface area through practical design challenges and testing. There was fantastic reasoning on display as pupils made predictions, measured variables, and tweaked their designs to slow things down or speed them up!

Global Energy Experts

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to environmental science and geography. Pupils were challenged to think like renewable energy engineers, evaluating which sources of energy—wind, solar, hydro, or geothermal—were best suited to different countries around the world.

Using map data, climate facts, and terrain profiles, our Year 5 and 6 teams analyzed geographic locations to recommend sustainable power solutions for distinct environments.

Hard Work & Big Smiles

Throughout the day, the children demonstrated outstanding teamwork, critical thinking, and perseverance. They represented the school brilliantly, worked exceptionally hard on every task, and above all, had a fantastic time learning together!

Well done to all our attending Year 5 and Year 6 pupils for their brilliant energy and curiosity throughout the trip.
