A topic of discovery; children have been exploring the rainforest through music and have been introduced to new musical terms.  They have used a body percussion to create rhythms of the rainforest, layer by layer. 

The class were excited today as the young musicians enthusiastically practised their woodwind and brass instruments. Their sessions came alive with a harmonious blend of dedication and laughter, filling the air with an orchestra of joy.

Year 4 have had a very noisy afternoon creating straw pipes and a pipe flute. 

The children discovered that: the shorter straws produced a higher pitch note and the longer straws produced a lower pitched note.  

We have created our own 'Sound Wave Machine' to demonstrate how sound travels in waves.  The children explored how the waves change when you tap the jelly baby with different strengths.

Year 3 have been using pentatonic scales to compose melodies.

Reception listened to different pieces of music and used paint to record their emotional responses, creating exciting and expressive paintings. 

Year 2 have been talking about musical terms such as timbre, dynamics and tempo to describe characters and events from the story Little Read, Riding Hood and choosing the most appropriate instruments to represent that.

After listening to Beethoven’s fifth symphony and the James Bond theme tune, children in Year 4 explored musical motifs.  The children then used tuned instruments to play a musical motif of 6 notes.
